FAQs
-
Once a neighborhood and thriving community, East Tarboro was heavily affected by the flooding of both hurricanes Floyd and Matthew. Left cleared for decades due to building restrictions imposed by subsequent FEMA buyouts, Freedom Org has been granted the opportunity to lease this land and develop a Community Demonstration Garden to help educate the community and encourage them to get more involved in growing fresh foods.
-
The Garden will address the lack of local access to fresh, healthy foods as well as the need for educational support surrounding the physical and mental health benefits tied to food and land sovereignty, practicing ecologically responsible land stewardship in relation to flood mitigation, and the presence of intergenerational community recreation spaces.
-
The garden welcomes all community members! We aim to foster inclusivity and participation.
